Almeria - Time After Time
Something about beaches - hot white sands, isolated coves, all the sports that can be had along the water front - that brings you back year after year on your Andalucia Holidays. The Costa Almeria is as varied as any Spanish coast. East of Almeria is completely unspoilt: rugged, desolate along the coast of Cabo de Gata -Nijar Natural Park, an arid dry desert landscape with an annual rainfall of less than 20 centimetres. A paradise with pristine secluded beaches where you can enjoy the clean waters ideal for sports like scuba diving, sailing and windsurfing. The awe-inspiring sight of the waves crashing against the high cliff walls. Very few populated areas, you feel you can explore with villages few and far between, where the traffic hold up more likely caused by unloading the local mule than the lorry unloading at your local supermarket. Thats one of the reasons why walking, horse trekking, nature lovers and back-packers love it here so much.
West of Almeria you'll find the highly developed tourist resorts of Roquetas de Mar and Aguadulce. Often popular, with new complexes and modern facilities making an ideal location for the package holiday makers. Further on north of the Costa de Almeria is the naturist beaches of Vera. Head south and Mojacar beckons, combining hillside whitewashed villages that tourists love to explore with popular beach holidaying. And don't forget Almeria itself with the Alcazaba fortress looking down over the city, busy shopping centres and designer shops galore. Ideally suited to those wanting to spend their well earned money and not forgetting the many restaurants and bars that you'll find here; many that will have singers, guitarists and if youre really lucky flamenco dancing to entertain you.
And if it's golf you're here for, then Amerimar with its expensive boats lining the marinas, hotels and many other facilities like restaurants is where you'll find the best golf in this region of Andalucia. Even further west is the old fishing port town of Adra; often overlooked by tourists even though it has some very interesting archaeological remains and an interesting castle. The town dates from the Phoenician era and it reached the height of its splendor during Roman times.
The Almeria coast extends alongside the Mediterranean Sea; the landscape is unusual with some areas covered in greenhouse crops while desert like regions and salt marshes cover others. There are mountains, rocky beaches, where every town and city has its memories, stories to tell of ancient civilisations. Watchtowers line the coast reminding of the times when pirates were the unwelcome tourists of the time. Visit El Argar and Los Millares where the wealth of ancient buildings reminds us of the Muslim influence of the region. While modern cities offer the tourist every form of sport available, with shopping open to the late hours of the day as restaurants, bars and nightclubs beckon the young. It won't take long to discover the beauty of Andalucia; you'll definitely need a car to get around but when you do start to explore you will never regret a moment while here on your ANDALUCIA HOLIDAYS.
