Smartphone case with airbag

Aalen University engineer Philip Frenzel of Germany has developed a smartphone case that protects against shocks when the smartphone falls and looks like an airbag.

The sensors on the smartphone case detect the falling of the smartphone. When the drop is detected, the eight thin metal plates that are caught inside the case are spread out to protect the corner of the smartphone. You can then re-insert the metal plates into the case.

The idea was awarded the Grand Prize at the German Society for Mechatronics. He said the product will be available in kickstart this July.
